The complaint I have about this article is that the United States is also a very dangerous place to travel, with one of the highest rates of violent crimes in the developed world. The author’s tone implies that leaving the USA is like leaving a safe space, when our country is anything but.

The net impact of that tone reinforces a common American prejudice that our country is better (safer) than others, which is demonstrably not true, and seems to discourage travel.

Women (outside of extreme adventure travelers) don’t need to learn Krav Maga to see the world.
